State of the School: Willow River!

Megan Traver is a leadership development trainer and coach, Amazon best selling author, speaker, consultant, and adjunct college teacher.  Her work is focused on goal setting and celebrations.  Her State of the School Events include a school wide celebration of goals, at the mid-year and end of the year staff meetings.  She worked in two different struggling high schools that when staff were given a focus, and an intentional point of celebration, achievement turned around in both buildings.

These celebrations include grade levels/departments sharing a 3-5 min. update on their goals, progress, and next steps at the mid-year, and final results at the end of the year.  In her buildings, she invited cheerleaders, served food, in one building choreographed a line dance - anything to create a culture of celebration.  The purpose is to celebrate, as well as to hold stakeholders accountable.  I'm going to introduce it to our staff for the first time this February, initially inviting our grade level teachers, and maybe PBIS and/or media - to share the progress they've seen so far this year.  Eventually, I'd love to see it growing to include every staff member (custodial, kitchen, etc.).  But let's start smaller!

I am planning this event for Friday, February 28th after the Early Release.  Each grade level needs to collaborate on their slide - please do not spend anymore than 20 minutes - to share what your students have done so far this year.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  I'm excited to see all of the things we have to celebrate!
Sue
