Veterans Day
November 11, 2021
This Thursday is Veterans Day, and Willow River is celebrating it in a unique way this year! As many of you know, Chris Reckinger's dad, Herb Reckinger, works for a project that finds photographs to put faces with the names of the Vietnam War veterans (Wall of Faces). Herb has identified a Vietnam War vet, Richard Fina, that attended Hudson High School, when the high school was in Willow. Herb has connected with Richard's family, and has created a plaque in honor of Richard who lost his life in the Vietnam War. This plaque will be presented to our school this Thursday, in front of our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, to be displayed in the Willow River auditorium.
Thank you to Chris and his dad for honoring Richard Fina, and his family, who will also be in attendance on Thursday. We hope it is a memorable event for our students, and the Fina family.
Here are some optional Veterans Day resources to use in 2nd-5th grade classrooms this week:
PBIS Learning - Veterans Day (1:17)
Veterans Day - How it started and why we honor it: Kid History (100 year anniversary) - 2:10
Holidays: Veterans Day (Ducksters website)
Have a good week! Stay healthy =)
