A letter to our custodians...

I found this on weareteachers.com, and it fits our Willow custodians perfectly!  Please take a moment to thank your custodial team this week (and always!).  An open letter to school custodians - see below!

--------------------------------------------

Dear School Custodian;

Sam Ewing, a former professional baseball player, once said, "Hard work spotlights the character of people: Some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don't turn up at all."

Custodians - thank you for turning up.  Thank you for rolling up your sleeves.  Thank you for working hard.  The next time you walk down the hall and your keys jangle in your pocket, listen to them - your keys sing a song of duty, honor, and dedication.

You are key to our healthy environment

You sanitize and clean every possible surface in our school.  You disinfect germy desks and doorknobs; you drop everything and clean up when there's a mess; you scrub the post-lunch cateferia and dirty bathrooms.  You do your very best.

You are key to our safety and security

You understand that kids (and some adults) fail to look where they are going, so when a student spills water, you set up a cone, reroute the troops, and mop it up.  After a big snow, you show up early and salt the sidewalks so we don't slip and fall.  You get on a ladder and replace lightbulbs in dark hallways.  You check and recheck to make sure the building is secure. And when a car has a dead battery, who do we call for a jump? You.  I doubt that's in your job description, but you come out to help.

You are key to our comfort (this one reminded me of our chiller!!)

Many school HVAC systems have a mind of their own, especially the old ones. You field the floods of "too hot" and "too cold" complaints and do your best to regulate because you understand when students are uncomfortable, they don't learn, and when teachers are uncomfortable, they get cranky.  You caulk drafty windows, grease squeaky doors, and sync the clocks.

You are key to our good image

You display our banners, flags and awards with care.  You make sure the groudns look good because you are as proud of the school as we are.

Thank you for all you do for our students, staff, parents, and school.

With appreciation,

Your Staff

Personal Reading Plan

Personal Reading Plans

You are all familiar with Act 20, and we are learning more and more about the requirements and implementation timeline as we move forward in the year.  Next week, classroom teachers will be meeting to learn more about the Personal Reading Plans (Oct. 2nd).  The state has put together an Act 20 Handbook, from which I've taken the information about the Personal Reading Plans if you want to "study ahead"!

This is just an overview - you will be getting examples of what Hudson's Personal Reading Plan will look like, as well as information on how they will be filled out, who will implement, etc.  Don't worry if you still have questions - that's what October 2nd is for!

Have a great week!

Sue

Hudson Homecoming!

Homecoming:

the return of a group of people usually on a special occasion to a place formerly frequented or regarded as home; an annual celebration for alumni at a high school, college, or university.

Hudson High School Homecoming Week is September 16-20, a time to celebrate being back to school, reconnecting with friends, fall activities, football games, and the Hudson community! The elementary schools are joining the high school's dress up days (except for Monday's "Dress Like Adam Sandler")!
  • Monday - Color Day (dress in your favorite color(s), head to toe)
  • Tuesday - Twin Day (match with a classmate by wearing the same color, match what your teacher may wear, or wear your favorite MN TWINS gear)
  • Wednesday - Favorite Team Day (wear your favorite team's shirt/jersey) NOTE: The HHS Spirit Bus will be on the Willow playground from approximately 10:50-11:10 (K will need to go in early for lunch)
  • Thursday - USA DAY (wear red, white, and blue)
  • Friday - Raider Pride Day (wear any Hudson gear or anything blue and white) NOTE: This is also Willow's Picture Day!
Have a great week! Sue

Patriot Day

Here's an overview and an activity Choice Board (this is from a few years ago so check to make sure links work!) if you're looking for something to do in your classroom.  We will be sharing information and a video on the Raider Report as well.

Note:  Patriots' Day commemorates the battles of Lexington and Concord, which were fought near Boston in 1775. Patriots' Day is annually held on the third Monday of April. It should not be confused with Patriot Day, held on September 11 to mark the anniversary of terrorist attacks in the USA in 2001.

Don't forget to wear red, white and blue on Wednesday, September 11th to recognize Patriot Day.

Have a great week!
Sue

Collaboration!

As we begin Week 2, I want to do a shout out to the entire Willow staff on your eagerness to collaborate with the people you work with.  Whether it's a sped teacher and the ed assistants, teachers supporting others on the team, a coach or colleagues working with new teachers to help support new curriculum and strategies, or staff stepping up when they see a need and helping out. The Willow staff knows the importance of collaboration, teamwork, and supporting each other. It makes me so proud to be a part of this Willow community!

Keep doing the work you are doing -

we are off to a great start!
